The Official Swiss Railway Clock
Time is precious, they say. Make every second count! At Panik Design we live by mottos like this. More often than not though, we glance at a clock and think, WHAT? It CAN NOT be that time already, haha! Hours appear to go by in a flash, especially when you are having fun! In 1944 the Swiss engineer Hans Hilfiker, an employee of the Federal Swiss Railways had a moment of genius. He invented a clock that has become known as the ‘Official Swiss Railway Clock’. Its trademark red second hand soon became its most recognisable characteristic.
Minimalistic in its appearance, the functionality of the Mondaine Smart Stop2Go has the same distinguishing feature as the original Swiss Railway Clock design. The iconic red second hand will temporarily stop when it reaches 12! This allows the minute hand to gracefully dance to the next minute. Not just a pretty face, this clock will also tell you the temperature in the room on your Smartphone via Bluetooth!
MONDAINE HONORS THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE SWISS RAILWAY CLOCK
Owning a Mondaine Swiss Railway Clock is, in essence, putting a piece of design history up on your wall. The Official Swiss Railway clock is a perfect example of modern time-telling. Since its release in 1944, it has achieved a deservedly beloved place in global design recognition. Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB) engineer Hans Hilfiker imagined the original—which would come to represent the precision of the transport system. Since 1986, the Swiss watch brand Mondaine has been the official licensee. With an original clock blueprint, Mondaine has minimised the design and applied it to wristwatches with authenticity.
At Panik Design we hold an extensive collection of these timeless design classics. So, whether you are always on time, or always fashionably late, keep track of the time with the traditional and elegant Mondaine Swiss Railway Clock!
