Alessi Advent Calender
After Giacon’s “Nativity Scene” and Jori’s “Nativity Baubles”, an “Advent Calendar” was bound to appear soon: an object of such love, so Nordic and magical that both artists would have loved to create it. So instead of competing for the trophy, Jori and Giacon decided to give themselves a Christmas present: “collaboration”! A rare gift indeed in the world of art, but then again, the Christmas message is one of universal love. Even among artists! Here is the result! Skyscraper windows that open in cities around the world – New York, Chicago and Tokyo – towers by Sottsass and Mendini and mountain cabins, with Jori’s nativity baubles bouncing around, transformed into Giacon’s lively nativity characters and other figures designed especially for Alessi. The two designer-friends shared out the “holy days”, twelve each, to celebrate the birth of God on Earth and friendship between all men of god will. Two top brands, both leaders in their own fields,
also joined forces to collaborate for the first time: Alessi and Panini, the paper publishing empire once associated with football stickers and today with Marvel, Disney and Star Wars characters.
Massimo Giacon and Marcello Jori’s Advent Calendar is a large format (A3) hardback edition with the classical 25 opening windows, starting from the first of December, and with 32 full-colour pages inside.
