Alessi Bark Christmas Crib

Designed by Michael Boucquillon and Donia Maaoui, the Bark collection – inspired by tree bark – was inaugurated in 2015 with the production of the Bark centrepiece. The designers drew their inspiration from their home, Casa Boucquillon: it is a place for experimentation, meditation and work where they can live in synch with nature. The perforated pattern of the “Bark” range recalls the bark on the trees that surround the house. The result is a strongly poetic collection where every individual object proves to be, either in shape or in function, in continuous and harmonious dialogue with nature.

- Produced at the factory in Crusinallo, Omegna, the "Bark Crib" demonstrates, like the other objects in this collection, Alessi's skill in processing steel
- “Bark Crib” is produced with a cutting and laser perforating process on the steel sheet, which is subsequently shaped
- The stable, the Three Wise Men and the star that guided them, plus the donkey and the ox, all form an ensemble: a seamless figure obtained by cutting and folding a single sheet of stainless steel.
- The Holy Family, in contrast, is a mobile element, made in laser-cut steel with a gold finish. The gold colour emphasises these characters' central role in the nativity scene.
