What is 'Smart Wood'? Smart Wood is the fusion of one of life's boldest and basic furniture construction materials fused with technological know how. With patented technology a fine layer of wood is worked with a mould, designed to provide curvature of the wooden panel to the edges to create a shape of unprecedented roundness. In this way the beauty of the wood is enhanced - bent horizontally and vertically in three dimensions to create welcoming curves to ensure maximum comfort. This practice is part of the 'Kartell Loves The Planet' philosophy - aimed at enhancing good practices for sustainability throughout the production process in the use of raw materials, coupled with low environmental impact.

Founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli, the company has been at the forefront of innovative design, combining creativity, technology, and functionality to produce iconic products.

One of Kartell's distinguishing features is its pioneering use of plastic materials in furniture production. The brand revolutionized the industry by elevating plastic from being considered a cheap and disposable material to a sophisticated and versatile medium for design. In addition to furniture, Kartell offers a wide range of home accessories, lighting fixtures, and lifestyle products. Their product portfolio encompasses a diverse array of items, from tables and chairs to lamps, vases, and kitchenware.
