The company’s name embodies this idea. Magis is a Latin word that means “more than”.

In most of the newsletters I write I try to sprinkle you with little snip bits of our outrageous world at Panik Design. Every day at Panik is a Glitz and Glamour Day! And not just in what our fashionista, dapper company founder is wearing! There is also the show biz side to our company and today, I feel like doing a substantial amount of bragging!

Gordon Watson is a British antique dealer and television personality, and “one of the world’s leading authorities on 20th and 21st century design”. In the BBC Two series The Extraordinary Collector, Watson stakes his money and reputation on buying and selling exquisite furnishings to his wealthy clients – lords, ladies and billionaires. Panik Design were extremely excited when approached by a member of Gordon Watson’s team and we were even more ecstatic to supply him with the fabulous Magis Spun Chair which was then featured on his show, with Watson himself selling it to The Billionaire Collector Lord Rothschild (The Extraordinary Collector – season 1 episode 1)!

Which brings us to probably the most blissfully unconventional chair ever produced and, here’s the twist… This is the classic Rocking Chair gone WILD! You know that saying ‘did the earth move for you, babe’ well in the case of this chair, it certainly DID! The Spun chair is a functional chair formed from a single profile rotated through 360 degrees. Spun teasingly plays with the notion of a static piece of contemporary sculpture that transforms into a lively piece of design. When upright Spun is ornamental, decorative and it is only when it is lent on its side that the motion possibilities of its form come to life. Spun allows the sitter to swivel in a circular rocking motion, including being able to rotate in a complete circle!  Born of Thomas Heatherwick’s creative flair and Magis research, this crazy seat has already won one of the design world’s supreme accolades, the 2014 ADI Compasso d’Oro Award!
