The design is inspired by Wright’s Taliesin 1 Pendant Light, an original design that was created to illuminate a theatre at the architect's 1911 residence in Taliesin, Wisconsin. The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture are now both situated at this very same location.
Crafted from cherry wood, the material was chosen after Wright’s favourite colour, red. The sculptural lamp consists of a series of boxes which contain the light sources, each reflecting off the boards placed above and below them.
The principle of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Organic Architecture was to design buildings where all the parts were integral of the structure and to the building’s very nature. Embracing old craft and new technology Yamagiwa is pleased to present this collection of lighting fixtures in the spirit of that pursuit.
